Minuet in G Major
Christian Petzold
Level: Beginner (easy)
In this piano tutorial, you'll learn to play the song "Minuet in G Major," best known among Efteling enthusiasts as the song about the mushrooms in the Fairytale Forest.
The piece was composed by Christian Petzold, although for a time it was attributed to Johann Sebastian Bach.
Almost every Dutch person has that one photo somewhere in a photo album: yourself as a child on that mushroom in Efteling, with that dreamy tune. How cool would it be to be able to play that tune yourself? It's actually not that difficult.
Besides creating tutorials, I also love visiting the Dutch amusement park Efteling. That's how the idea came about to create a series of piano tutorials featuring classical music pieces used in the park, with footage from the park below.
Tips for playing piano
✔ Practice step by step: Repeat the Slow section as many times as needed until you feel comfortable, then move on to the next chapter.
✔ Hands separately first: Start by practicing the right hand (melody), then the left hand, and finally both together.
✔ Play with a partner: One person can play the melody while the other plays the accompaniment—great for learning together!
✔ Practice daily: Even just 15 minutes a day will help you improve steadily.
✔ Take your time: enjoy the process, and have fun playing!
